Membership and operating ratios
Posted by Al from Marietta, OH, US on June 2, 2008
In an earlier question, you mentioned key membership and operatng ratios that can give an idea of successful operation (i.e., membership attrition, ave. dues paid, ave. initiation fees, revenue/sq. ft., revenue per s.f., revenue per member, member/s.f., cost of sale, payroll as a % of revenue, dues as a % of rev., operating expense as a percentage of rev., debt-equity ratio). Are there any industry standards as a comparative standard?
Yes but this requires on heckuva long answer! You can join IHRSA and get their "State of the Industry" publication yearly - that gives you a lot of the benchmarks. I also have a "Monthly Metrics System" which addresses 28 key ratios/numbers and 8 Benchmarks for success. Please contact me at michaelscottscudder@yahoo.com for more information.
What is the best software
Posted by Jim from Moline, IL, US on May 17, 2008
For the money, which is the best affordable software that provides management with all of the information and tools to manage the facility and has various tools effective for retention purposes?
Really depends on an awful lot of factors: size and number of your facilities, size of membership, management requirements, your own technological abilities, your IT budget, support needed, etc. I'd rank in this order: Conexion, CheckFree, ABC and down from there.

Nutrition software

I am the wellness coordinator at a corporate wellness facility. We are considering bringing in some form of software to aid members in nutritional management. Do you have any recommendations on brands, what to look for, etc.?
There are a zillion! One of Conexion's strategic partners is VitaBot. They have terrific software, and were just featured in OK Magazine! http://www.okmagazine.com/news/view/8105 Another option is to Google "nutrition software" and/or "nutrition management software" and try to get trial downloads. That's the best way.
